2004 Reception and Awards Print E-mail

cc2004_four_leaders.jpgDC Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy announced a preliminary the 2002 (most recent) teen pregnancy rate for the District of Columbia at its Conversation Changers Reception on Thursday, May 6, 2004, at 10 a.m. at the Arbor Ballroom and Conference Center, located on the campus of The Washington Times.

“Since DC Campaign began in 1999, the teen pregnancy rate has fallen significantly. Despite the good news, this is no time for complacency. At 74.4 per 1,000 girls 15-19, DC continues to have one of the highest teen pregnancy rates in the nation” said Brenda Rhodes Miller, executive director of DC Campaign.

This year, during Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month, DC Campaign presented its fifth annual Conversation Changers award to Mrs. Helena Valentine. She was the former director of the Catholic Charities after-school program, Teen Life Choices for 14 years. Mrs. Valentine also pioneered developing partnerships, coalitions and relationships to help make teen pregnancy a thing of the past.
